Kaixin001 & Kaixin Meets in Court

Something big is going on...

The operator of one of China’s most popular social network, Kaixin001.com, has just filed a lawsuit against Oak Pacific Interactive, which started a competing service in Oct. under the domain of Kaixin.com. In the suit, Kaixin001.com has asked Oak Pacific Interactive stop using the Kaixin.com name.

Kaixin001.com is best known for its addictive online games. But the rapid growth of Kaixin001.com posed a direct challenge to Xiaonei.com, which also happens to be owned by Oak Pacific Interactive. When Oak Pacific Interactive launched Kaixin.com, it also adopted a layout and game options that looked akin to Kaixin001.com. The new Kaixin.com soon became popular, perhaps in part because some users thought they were logging onto Kaixin001.com, which accused Kaixin.com of unfair competition.

Now, just sit back and wait a little bit to see where the lawsuit is heading for.

Has The Google Time Come?

Let's consider - how many time are you using Google products every day?

Now Google is my major search engine; Gmail has always been my mail box for years; Google Docs is taking root rapidly, and I just can't imagine if Chrome become the prime browser someday in the future.

To be frank with everyone, Chrome 2.0 sucks to the extreme. Lacking even the basic functions, it's so barebone, and its only selling point, the browsing speed, couldn't go very far. However, I beg you wouldn't sacrifice yourself a great deal of functions just for that insignificant speed increase. So far, Chrome has largely disappointed all the Google adorers, in perhaps every aspect.

It may be, though, that Google see its browser little more than a front end for web-based applications such as Gmail or Google Docs, and figures that the applications themselves, not the browser, is where most functionality will reside.

The Google time has yet to come, but we are in that right direction.

Twitter is revving up and would soon kiss Nytimes! Thanks to a full string of celebrities - Oprah Winfrey, Ashton Kutcher and Britney Spear, etc - Twitter is now on its way to surpass everyone, and everything, on the internet. The traditional powerhouse Nytimes.com would soon be overtaken in terms of unique visitors. So who is going to compete with Twitter in the Webby Award gala? Name your candidate!

Rejaw is in Dead Pool Now

To most of you, this might not be newsworthy at all. Rejaw has announced its dead recently amid an increasingly fierce battle over social market share. Though the dead of Rejaw is not considered notable, what behind it perhaps is an upcoming demises of a long string of similar sites. As Twitter getting bigger and bigger rapidly and has somehow managed to become the standard of mini-blogging, other weaker rivals would soon be marginalized and meet their ends.

One of the survivors trailing way behind Twitter is Plurk, who seems to be still enjoying a healthy grow in this smokeless warfare. (Taiwan Plurker was the main force behind this grow) Though it does have some distinctive features to show right now, no one can tell how long the magic would last.

PDF to Word

PDF to Word is an amazing free service recently available online. Converting PDF has always been one of the hardest nuts to crack. By saying that I mean PDF converter is not rare, but most of them fail in one way or the other; some convert files into awkward formats while others simply don't work the way you expect!

I tried PDF to Word today with a PDF file shot through with pictures, and minutes later it returned me via email an impeccable work! Well done Nitro! (Nitro is the provider of this free service)

Zemanta Enriches Your Blogging

Zemanta is, in general, a blogging enrichment tool. I tried this firefox addon a few times and thought it was not at its perfect stage right now. It claimed to suggest proper tags, links, photos and related articles on any blog entry but in fact it had repeatedly failed to present me the right photos for my blog piece. Inarguably, the whole idea behind Zemanta was great, saving your time on blogging while enriching your blog content as you type. I hope the author will keep improve on this extension and one day become a powerful widget for bloggers.

But just don't be so ecstatic since for now Zemanta offers little, if any, support to Chinese. We may have to wait a wee bit before a Chinese simulator coming out.

Damn IE and Firefox Incompatibility

No joke! My torturing first-hand experience of IE and Firefox incompatibility.

I put some songs on my blog today, and just didn't want the musics to autostart so I dictated autostart="false" in the script. Things should have been all done, I thought! However, while it worked fine in Internet Explorer, it did not be so in Mozilla Firefox. The default setting for IE is "false" which means the music will not play automatically. But the default setting for Firefox is "true". Hell with them!

A google search revealed thousands of complaints about this incompatibility, but few solutions available.

Countless painful drills into this shit eventually unearthed the treasurable solution - autostart="0".

It REALLY sucks... But at least I know how to disable autostart with Firefox now. Thanks incompatibility!
